Buying a New Boiler

If your boiler is breaking down regularly or its age means you are considering buying a new boiler there are a few thing you should consider. Boilers are an integral part of your home without one there is no hot water, as choosing the correct boiler for your circumstances is an important decision i thought it would be useful to offer some advice.

Buying a New Boiler – Combi or System Boiler

Combi boilers provide all of the hot water for your central heating and your taps & showers. Combi boilers heat water instantly as you turn the tap on, consequently you dont need a hot water cylinder or a cold water storage tank. They are usually very cost effective and energy efficient and they are packaged in a simple compact unit so they won’t take up much space in your home.

System boilers store your hot water in a cylinder they are often better for large homes where you can potentially have several hot water taps, showers etc running at once. They are also compatible with solar water heating systems which is good for the environment and cheaper for you.

Who to Buy From

My recommendation is to buy form the big brands such as Worcester, Valiant or Ideal. This is because they have proven products that are reliable and cost efficient. They are also widely installed in the UK so you should have trouble finding a plumber to install then or conduct maintenance. Its always worth looking at the reviews for their boilers

Boiler Reliability

All boilers break down from time to time, parts degrade though use, this is completely normal. I would suggest doing some research on any boiler you are thinking of buying and finding out if there are any common causes for breakdowns. If there are this might be an indication that there is a manufacturing problem with the boiler.
